Geothermal energy: a basis for low-emission heat generation, improvement of living conditions, and sustainable development

Implementation period: 2017-07-07 - 2017-11-30

Type: International

Division: Division of Renewable Energy Sources

The aim of this project is the transfer of knowledge, technologies, and good practices in heating in geothermal energy buildings (RES) from Norway and Iceland to Poland. The project has increased the acceptance and knowledge of many stakeholder groups regarding the wider use of geothermal energy and has contributed to the potential of low-carbon sustainable economy, improvement of living conditions, and the development of bilateral cooperation. As part of the project, preliminary feasibility studies and pilot projects to be carried out in Poland, using the experience of Norway and Iceland, were developed. The partners of these countries have gained experience in the heating industry, which was observed under the conditions prevailing in Poland and other European countries, and have strengthened their knowledge and competencies. The proposed formal and economic tools, which, along with the transfer of knowledge and good practices, are indispensable for the sustainable development of the Polish heating industry based on geothermal resources, constitute an important element of the project. The project is implemented on the initiative of the Ministry of Environment – Head Office of Land Surveying and Cartography, the Department of Geology and Geological Concessions, and the Department of European Funds. Our Institute was the project leader.
