Autonomous management, balancing and highly efficient energy storage system from renewable sources using local energy storage

Autonomous management, balancing and highly efficient energy storage system from renewable sources using local energy storage

Implementation period: 2022-10-03 - 2028-02-29

Type: National

Division: The Division of Mineral Resources Acquisition, The Division of Energy Economics, The Division of Minerals and Energy Sustainable Development

PROJECT NR: NTE-I/0009/2021

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The aim of the project is to build a distributed optimization-forecasting-management system (AUTEN) for local energy nodes (LWE), providing energy balancing and storage for communities comprising LWE, including both individual transformer stations (medium/low voltage) and medium-voltage networks. The AUTEN system will utilize existing infrastructure at energy consumers and producers, along with components to enhance its functionality, such as an artificial intelligence module (with teleinformatics infrastructure), energy banks, sensors (energy meters, environmental condition sensors), AUTEN system gateways (providing access to telemetry data, equipped with interfaces for optionally controlling the operation of devices in end-user infrastructure). The AUTEN system will expand the functionality of a standard energy bank, creating a local „smart storage”. The „smart storage” will be powered by data from smart energy meters or standalone monitoring systems installed in the installations of individual consumers and prosumers. It will enable the stabilization of the HV energy network by reducing sudden power demand from outside LWE (e.g., from OSD) and stabilizing RES (including through energy storage and distribution) as an energy source for LWE. By being able to locally buffer energy surpluses and redistribute them, it will ensure optimal energy utilization at the local level, minimizing the problem of energy overproduction (locally) and enabling the use of energy from outside LWE, reducing the load on the transmission network. Intelligent sensors gather information from individual user installations (generation, consumption) and transmit it to the AUTEN system, which, based on the collected data and data from other systems such as weather forecasting, consumption histories, and schedules, controls the charging and discharging characteristics of the storage, informs users about the possibility of using cheaper and/or more environmentally friendly energy, and controls the operation of devices registered in the system to operate in automatic mode, as well as collecting „billing information”.

The project is being implemented by a consortium of two entities: Krypton Polska sp. z o.o. and IGSMIE PAN.
