The exploration of formations and structures for safe geological CO2 storage together with their monitoring program

Implementation period: 2008-01-01 - 2012-12-31

Type: National

Division: The Division of Geotechnology

The aim of the project was to provide the Ministry of the Environment with the information necessary for making future decisions regarding the granting of concessions for exploration of potential carbon dioxide storage sites and other methods for its management that are in accordance with the requirements of the EU directive on the geological storage of CO 2 and its future adaptation to national law. The project has resulted in, among others, an interactive atlas presenting the possibilities of geological CO2 sequestration in Poland. The project, commissioned by the Ministry of Environment and financed from NFEP&WM funds, was implemented by a consortium of the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute, AGH University of Science and Technology, the Central Mining Institute, the Oil and Gas Institute – National Research Institute, the PBG LTD, and the Mineral and Energy Economy Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences (MEERI PAS).
