Sustainable performance of water and wastewater utilities in the transformation process towards a circular economy

Sustainable performance of water and wastewater utilities in the transformation process towards a circular economy

Implementation period: 2026-02-02 - 2029-01-31

Type: National

Division: Division of Biogenic Raw Materials

The project aims to examine and conceptualize the key factors and impacts of implementing circular economy (CE) principles in the operation of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in Poland. The project addresses the need to shift from the traditional, linear model of resource and waste management towards a circular, sustainable, and resource-efficient model. The results will support scientific advancement in research on circular economy business models and the operation of WWTPs in the transition towards a circular economy in Poland and Europe. The project also has significant potential to influence the development of circular economy strategies for municipal companies and the dissemination of research findings in scientific and industry journals.

The OPUS project is financed by the National Science Centre, contract number UMO-2025/57/B/HS4/03180 for research project no. 2025/57/B/HS4/03180.
