The project “Geothermal Synergy: Knowledge exchange Iceland-Poland” (GeoSynergy) is co-financed by the Bilateral Cooperation Fund of the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area 2014-2021 and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 under the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Programme.
Project Partners are Mineral and Energy Economy Research Institute PAS MEERI PAS (leader) and National Energy Agency/from January 2025 – Icelandic Environment and Energy Agency (Orkustofnun/ Umhverfis- og orkustofnun) – leading institutions in their countries in the field of research and use of geothermal energy.
The aim of the Project is to trengthen professional, economic and social ties between institutions and individuals from Iceland and Poland. It will serve as a model for international cooperation in the field of renewable energy, showing how the two countries can mutually benefit from common knowledge and experience. The project is addressed to representatives of the main stakeholder groups involved in various ways in the geothermal energy sector in Poland and Iceland. The project will contribute to deepening the exchange of specialist knowledge between Poland and Iceland on technologies and policies supporting the development of the use of geothermal energy. Cooperation will be initiated within the GEOTHERMICA initiative (in which the Icelandic partner is already active).
The main activities of the Project include webinars on selected experiences of Iceland and Poland in the field of geothermal energy, exchange of knowledge and experience, study visit to Iceland, establishing cooperation with the international GEOTHERMICA initiative, planning strategic cooperation, information and communication activities.
