Project entitled „Centre for Sustainable Management of Minerals and Energy” is implemented by the Mineral and Energy Economy Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences, and co-financed from funds of the Regional Operational Programme of Małopolskie Voivodeship for the years  2014-2020 (Priority Axis 1 Knowledge management, Activity 1.1. Research infrastructure of science).

The project is implemented in a Scientific Consortium, whose Leader is MEERI PAS, and Partners are: ZGH Bolesław S.A., Geotermia Mazowiecka S.A. and EGM S.A.

Project’s main aims:

• Building a scientific consortium to implement the idea of partnership for the creation of modern scientific and technological solutions and knowledge transfer to enterprises,
• Development of the MEERI PAS laboratory and office base to expand its scientific and research offer and to improve the working conditions of the Institute’s employees

Project’s detailed aims:

• Activation of actions for the implementation of innovative solutions in the field of obtaining and using metallic and non-metallic minerals, in particular from industrial and municipal waste
• Development of activities in the area of implementing innovative solutions in the field of renewable energy sources (especially regarding the use of geothermal energy and biomass),
• Development and implementation of innovations in the areas of sustainable production of minerals from mineral deposits, obtaining minerals from waste, and optimization of the use of renewable energy sources (in particular in the field of geothermal energy and biomass).

Project scope:

Main assumptions of Project:

• Establishment of laboratories in a new six-storey laboratory and office building on the premises of MEERI PAS at Wybickiego 7A street in Krakow. The new building will be constructed in passive technology with maximum use of renewable energy sources.
• Purchase of comprehensive equipment for laboratories:
  • Comprehensive Waste and Biomass Research Laboratory,
  • Engineering Modeling Laboratory,
  • Engineering Geophysics Laboratory.
• In the Geothermal Laboratory in Bańska Niżna near Nowy Targ it is planned to expand the testing station for thermal water treatment with a hybrid desalination system in combination with a thermal concentration installation, construction of a ground heat storage in BTES technology, and the modernization of some existing laboratory facilities.
