The conference discussed the issues related to the rational use of water and mineral resources, which are of the highest priority in the twenty-first century. The conference addressed primarily the following issues: the protection of waters against pollution, development of waste management sector in the Baltic Sea basin, reclamation and development of post-mining and post-industrial areas, the availability of mineral resources and raw materials from primary and secondary sources (municipal wastes, anthropogenic deposits) in EU countries, and many others.
