Who we are

The Division of Mineral Resources Acquisition is a team of qualified employees who specialize in technical, economic and environmental analysis, broadly understood, and who provide advisory services for large enterprises from the mining and energy sectors. We have been operating within the Institute’s structure for over 30 years. During this time, we have implemented over 200 scientific and research and development projects. We are proud of the fact that many of the completed projects have been used in the industry and indeed some of them are still in use. Our findings and achievements are also published in reputable journals. We have completed several research and development grants, some of which were published as independent books. The flagship project of the division is the School of Underground Mining conference.

Scientific and research activity

The applied research in the field of mineral resource management carried out in our division covers a wide range of methods from various scientific disciplines. These projects are characterized by their interdisciplinary character and their practical application. Our scientific interests include issues related to the valuation of resources, the analysis of the geological and mining potential of investment projects, resource classification methods according to Polish and international standards, the assessment of the nuisance from geological and mining conditions prevailing in mining plants, issues and aspects related to the assessment of mine decommissioning costs and the operation of energy-mechanical devices and mining machines, the technical and economic efficiency of individual links in the production process of mining plants and the issues of digital deposit modelling and production scheduling.

Research and development and service activities

Our team has implemented over 200 research and development projects, including about 50 applied research projects for business entities in the mining and energy industries. The offered services are our response to current problems reported by our clients. The division’s competences and certifications (two authorized mineral asset valuators and one authorized eurogeologist) allow us to carry out documentation work, including the assessment of geological and mining assets in accordance with global standards (the JORC code), technical and environmental due diligence reports and feasibility studies. In recent years, such services have been carried out, among others, for the needs of IPO LW Bogdanka S.A. and the JSW S.A., the privatization of ZE PAK, the restructuring process of the Kompania Węglowa (PGG) and for the acquisition of assets of the Katowicki Holding Węglowy S.A. IT tools of the division allow for the development of digital deposit models and automated production scheduling. In cooperation with IT solutions providers (ABB and DESWIK), the division team has implemented such projects for the LW Bogdanka S.A. in 2016. In addition, the division offers training courses in this field for mining enterprises. We cooperate with the KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., ZGH Bolesław and the largest consulting companies (KPMG and PWC), providing professional advisory services.

Our services

The division is focused on cooperation with the mining industry in the domestic and international markets. Based on the extensive experience of the team, we offer services in the following fields:

  • Preparation of geological documentation, deposit plans, environmental reports, or other license documentation,
  • Implementation of IT tools in the field of digital modelling of deposits and production scheduling,
  • Assessment of the nuisance from geological and mining conditions prevailing in underground mines,
  • Assessment of the operation of energy-mechanical devices and machines based on data from control and measurement equipment and mine automation,
  • Assessment of bituminous coal resources according to Polish and international standards (the JORC code),
  • Valuation of deposits of useful minerals and the assessment of the economic effectiveness of investment projects in mining,
  • Assessment of mine decommissioning costs to determine the sufficiency of the mining plant liquidation fund and assessment of the reserve balance sheet according to Polish accounting standards and IFRS standards,
  • Evaluation of the effectiveness of technological solutions for the exploitation of deposits.
