Scientific and research activity of the department

The department conducts scientific and research activities in the fields of engineering geology, geomechanics, engineering and mining geophysics, regional geology, environmental engineering and geochemistry, specializing in the following areas:

  • Assessment of the behaviour of rock mass and soil under static and dynamic loads aroundmine working areas, tunnels, communication routes and in a basement of engineering structures using measuring and analytical methods
  • Geophysical analysis of the structure, properties and spatio-temporal behaviour of soil and rock mass, accompanying landslides, sinkholes, flood embankments, deformations on mining terrains mining shocks and paraseismic vibrations and the analysis of deep geological structures for the storage of CO2
  • Storage of liquid hydrocarbons and highly active radioactive waste, carbon capture and storage (CCS) and geochemical analysis of processes occurring during CO2 storage
  • Applications of fly ash, flotation tailings and their modification products in engineering and environmental protection

Assessment of the impact of various factors on the environment, including assessment of the development potential of land taking into account various types of use and development and geo-ecological environmental assessment.

The department conducts a responsible personnel policy based on scientific succession, in which experience and skills are passed on to young research and development employees.

Workshops
