The Mission of the Institute is to provide modern, economically viable, environmentally friendly and socially attractive scientific solutions for the sustainable development of the country and its regions in the field of raw materials and energy. This Mission is implemented under the motto:

The recognition of the Institute’s brand in the scientific community and society through:
- The position of a recognized scientific centre, using an interdisciplinary approach to issues related to the management of mineral resources and the energy economy.
- The position of a key advisor for central administrative bodies, local government units and the industry.
Maintaining the right to confer doctoral degrees in mining and engineering geology and obtaining the right to confer the degree of Habilitated Doctor in this field.
Launching post-graduate studies and doctoral studies in the fields of mineral resource management, economic geology and/or mining economics.
Continuous improvement of the Institute’s position in the national and international research arena by increasing participation in on-going research projects, including:
- The development of cooperation with other institutes of the MEERI PAS and with selected institutes and universities.
- Conducting annual surveys and developing databases on various aspects of mineral resources management in Poland and worldwide.
